Locating and deciding on a place to hold your wedding and/or reception can be a daunting task, but usually one of the first steps in planning your event. Below are quite a few ideas regarding locations in Brevard County, Florida.

* I do not have any contractual relationships with the facilities listed on this page other than with the Unitarian Universalist Church of Brevard. This list has been compiled through personal experience, web searches and referrals. No formal endorsements in either direction are stated or implied.

I officiate weddings aside from my congregational duties simply because it is an incredible joy and an amazing honor. If you are planning a wedding I hope you take a few moments to browse the other sections of my site, or bookmark it for later. My intention is to create a site as helpful as possible in terms of crafting a ceremony uniquely tailored to your relationship. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments or concerns you may have whether you are interested in my services as a minister or not.

Best Wishes,

Rev. Ann Fuller

HOME WEDDINGS

A small backyard wedding

Palm Bay, FL

December 2007

You don't have to live in a mansion with a backyard gazebo overlooking the ocean. Any private home can be a lovely place to hold a wedding, especially if the property possesses special meaning for you. It may be the home in which one of you grew up, the first house you purchased together or the friend's home where you met.

I have a few items suitable for setting up a small home wedding for approximately 20 people. I can also recommend local vendors who provide a wide assortment of chairs, tables and decorations to help make a home the perfect wedding venue for you.

If you do not have access to a suitable home setting but are interested in this type of intimate setting for a small private ceremony, I am happy to host a ceremony at my home in Melbourne.

CHURCH WEDDINGS

Most religious denominations require either congregational membership or proof of denominational affiliation in order to be married within the church. They may also insist upon participation in their denomination's premarital counseling program. If family considerations lead you to a specific denomination, simply call a church in the area and inquire about their expectations. Expect churches to charge a rental fee just like other venues. They too have financial concerns associated with the use of their facilities. The church will most likely expect you to use one of their own clergy for officiating the service.

Unitarian Universalist churches are usually quite willing to accommodate weddings for couples who are not members of the congregation. There are three located in Brevard County. The UU Congregation of Cocoa, Friendship Fellowship of Pineda in Rockledge and the UU Church of Brevard in West Melbourne. Although I speak at all three churches and can help you contact the appropriate parties at any one, I am clearly more familiar with my home church.

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Brevard rents its facilities for private ceremonies and functions of all kinds. You need not be a member of the congregation to be married in our church, but we would prefer your service be officiated by one of our ministers. We offer a secular premarital counseling program, and while it is invaluable in its own right, we do not require it prior to solemnizing a marriage ceremony. The property can accommodate services in either the sanctuary or outside in a natural setting. The sanctuary has permanent seating for approximately 80 guests with the capacity to add temporary seating for approximately 40 more.

As a long-time member of UUCB and the current Affiliate Minister, I am extremely familiar with the facilities and can help you determine if it will meet your needs. I am certainly willing to facilitate communication with our Board of Trustees with regard to rental rates and calendar availability. The church is available for just the ceremony or can accommodate a small reception with its kitchen and social hall facilities.

PUBLIC FACILITIES: Parks, Beaches and Civic Centers

Howard Futch Park

Indialantic, FL

The Brevard County Parks and Recreation Department maintains a wide variety of public facilities available for ceremonial use. Whether you dream of a wedding on the beach, prefer a commitment ceremony at a park pavilion or would like a vow renewal during a family reunion at a campground, there is a park in Brevard County for you. Weekend pavilion reservations go fast, so I encourage you to contact the Parks and Recreation Department sooner rather than later.

In addition to Brevard County, the cities of Melbourne and Satellite Beach also have very nice civic facilities available for rent. Visit the Leisure Services page of the Melbourne city website for information on such venues as the Front Street Civic Center. The city of Satellite Beach has a lovely site for small to medium sized weddings. The Satellite Beach Recreation Department can be contacted to rent pavilions at beach parks or the Pelican Club Beach Clubhouse.

Many people come to this page looking for the Pelican Beach Club. I can tell you it is a lovely setting for a beach wedding and seems to be rather affordable. Especially when compared with professional banquet halls. Whether you want a caterer or bring the food yourselves, the space is well suited to hosting both a wedding and the following reception. Fire code allows no more than 70 people. If you want to be comfortable I would say your wedding party should include no more than 60 people. Thirty to fifty is probably optimal. You can get married right on the beach and walk back to the clubhouse or get married on the back deck. The facilities have restrooms, a kitchenette area and a small room up front I have seen used as a bride's room as well as a side vestibule for storage or catering set up.

I am less familiar with the public facilities in Palm Bay, but there are sites available for reservation in that municipality as well.

A substantial number of parks with beach or river access also have bathroom facilities and ample parking. In many areas you may make advance reservation for pavilions of a wide range of sizes and amenities. If your chosen location lacks desired items such as chairs right on the beach, tiki torches, tents, etc., I can recommend local vendors who provide packages to help make it the perfect venue for you.

PRIVATE FACILITIES: Hotels, Clubs, Restaurants, and Banquet Halls

Many of Brevard's hotels, country clubs, restaurants, etc. are available for weddings and provide wedding consultants and/or facility coordinators. I have experience officiating weddings at several of the beach resort hotels and country clubs. I would be more than happy to provide my honest appraisal of their facilities and services. Some facilities are better suited to certain wedding styles and sizes than others.

I confess to the most familiarity with South/Central venues in Brevard County. I am less familiar with potential sites in the far northern and far southern extremes of this long and narrow county. I'm never adverse to a little research though. Please understand this is far from a complete list. I welcome recommendations for additional resources.

The Tides Collocated Club

Patrick Air Force Base

The grounds of the Rossetter House in Eau Gallie are quite nice for garden weddings and can accommodate up to 100 people without a permit from the city. You will need to provide all decorations and setup through a party rental company or with your caterer. Alcohol may be served on the premises, but cannot be sold. The exterior of the house makes a lovely setting for photographs. However, as your event must be outdoors I recommend this site highly for winter months when the weather is not blistering hot and rain is less frequent.

Military personnel and their friends and family have access to The Tides Collocated Club at Patrick Air Force Base. They have a lovely deck overlooking the beach that will accommodate small to large weddings and several banquet rooms of varying sizes. In fact I have seen them successfully accommodate two separate wedding parties at the same time. Their catering manager is a delight and they have alternate space in case of inclement weather.

Keep in mind that some facilities, such as The Tides and the Eau Gallie Yacht Club, require sponsorship by a member of the club. This may very well be the case with other country clubs but I do not know specifics from personal experience.  Wherever you have your wedding it will be absolutely beautiful and uniquely your own. Have fun!

Restaurants

If you have a favorite restaurant and aren't sure they accommodate weddings, just ask them. The answer to any unasked question is always no. You'll be surprised what you can get if you just ask oh so sweetly

World Beat Cafe,Melbourne

I personally love the World Beat Cafe in Melbourne. I would probably officiate your wedding for free if you simply add me to your head count for the reception! (Same goes for Silvestros) I have no doubt James would put together an outstanding affair, especially since he has recently added a function room.

Silvestros, Cocoa Beach

Pizza Gallery and Grill, Viera

Green Turtle's Grapevine Cafe, Indian Harbour Beach

The Green Turtle, on Eau Gallie Blvd, is not only a gourmet food/wine shop and Brevard's premier caterer, but maintains a wine-themed event room that can seat up to 50. Exquisite for small elegant affairs.

Some excellent restaurants beautifully suited to hosting weddings in Brevard county have closed in recent years. If anyone would like to recommend a Brevard County restaurant for inclusion on this list, by all means send me a link.
